PlayStation

Now when discussing the topic of consoles I’m going to be bias and say from the jump that Sony Computer Entertainment makes the best consoles compared to Microsoft and Nintendo, but that’s just my opinion. The recent installment from the Sony franchise, the PlayStation 4 (PS4) is by far their best update to date console. The gaming experience improved so much for PlayStation consumers when the PS4 released and its mostly because of the user interface (UI).

When launching the PS4, the user is given the option to select a account to log in if they have more than one. Once logged in the user is greeted with a multitude of options on the home screen that aren’t to confusing and overwhelming. The user has the option to play a game they have either in their disk drive or downloaded onto their console and they are given options such as checking their notifications, friends, chat, profile, trophies, and more. The user also has the option to customize their interface with a theme, personal images, and can actually organize features to their liking.

Telling you all these cool features and customization probably got you hooked on the PS4 now don’t it. Well before you get completely hooked let me tell you the only problem that I have with the user interface. Say you have an application running in the background, well sometimes if you try to go to the home screen the entire PlayStation UI will lag and sometimes even freeze up on you. This causes long wait times, forces the user to manual shut down the system, or in some cases the PS4 crashes. This initial wasn’t a problem with the release of the PS4 back in 2013, but after a few system updates the UI just doesn’t run as smooth anymore. Now this could be due to out of date hardware, but this is a problem that should be known and stated.
